How it works

    Switch on what keeps pulling you in, add single apps, or list your own sites. It applies to all your devices at once.

    Turn it on everywhere

    The app sets up your iPhone, iPad or Mac in a tap. Anything else gets its own private DNS address.

    Ask a friend to back you up

    Send one link to someone you trust. If you loosen your filter or a device stops filtering, they'll know, so a weak moment becomes a conversation instead of a secret.

Any filter can be switched off at 1 a.m. StrictDNS doesn't pretend otherwise. It just makes sure you're not alone when it happens: someone you chose is there, because you asked them to be.

  • You're in charge. You choose what's blocked and who your partner is, and you can change either at any time.
  • A pause before unblocking. Loosening your filter asks you to confirm first, then lets your partner know. Often that's enough.
  • A heads-up, not a report. If a device stops filtering for 24 hours, or you remove it, your partner is told once.
  • Your browsing stays yours. Nobody sees the sites you visit unless you choose to share your activity log.

Who is StrictDNS for?

Anyone who has tried to cut back on adult content, gambling or endless scrolling and found it harder than it should be. It's made for people who choose it for themselves, not for keeping an eye on someone else.

What is a DNS filter?

Every app looks up a website's address before it connects to it. StrictDNS answers those lookups for your devices, and simply doesn't answer for the things you've chosen to block. Because it works below the apps, it covers every browser and every app, not just Safari.

Can I get around it?

Yes, and we'd rather say so. A VPN, or switching to another DNS in your settings, sends lookups somewhere else. But your partner hears when a device stops using StrictDNS. The filter stops you reaching for the habit on autopilot; your partner makes switching it off something you talk about instead of something you hide.

What does my partner see?

What you block, when you change it, and whether your devices are still filtering. Not the sites you visit, unless you decide to share your activity log.

Who should be my partner?

Someone you trust and talk to: a friend, a spouse, a sponsor, a mentor. It works best when they'll actually ask how you're doing, and even better when you back each other up.

Which devices does it work on?

iPhone, iPad and Mac with the StrictDNS app. Windows, Linux, routers and Chrome on Android work with a personal DNS address from the web app. A full Android app is on the way.
